Our apartment is our little sanctuary. It is so peaceful and I really do look forward to coming home because of how we put it together (okay and because Josh is waiting there too ;).
In this post I will describe where we purchased/found our favorite items and how we went about decorating our home. I am still putting the final touches on Rhett's room - so you'll have to check back for that reveal!
Our kitchen is very functional. I have cereal dispensers from Walmart in the color silver that I was able to find for super cheap. Ours are filled with Honey Nut Cheerios (Josh's favorite), Frosted Mini Wheats, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (my favorite). I also like to keep snack jars full on our counter as I am a huge snacker and love to munch throughout the day. I keep goldfish, animal crackers, and oreos stocked at all times. I got these jars from Ikea.
I am obsessed with our silver kitchen aid and use it on the daily. I leave it out on our counter which makes it easy to use and quick to put away. Our cake stand is from Williams Sonoma (similar one here) and the cake stand cover is from William Sonoma as well. I love the bell shape of the glass cover and think it adds such a cute touch to our kitchen!
Next to our kitchen is our kitchen table which was made by a local artisan in Austin, TX that I picked up when I moved into my first apartment in Houston. I love that it is a centerpiece in our home now - find a similar one here. Behind it we have a mirrored desk from West Elm that I use to showcase picture frames (notice, I still have yet to fill the frames with actual pictures...) That particular desk is no longer available, find a similar one here.
Above the mirrored table is one of our favorite verses, Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord." We got this particular sign at Magnolia Silos in Waco, Texas. Josh and I have a soft spot for Chip & Joanna as they are a husband and wife team too. We have been to their place in Waco a couple of times and always have way to much fun and spend way to much $$. ;) When we saw this sign, we couldn't resist bringing it home.
I am an advocate of fresh flowers and always have some in our apartment. Yes, I love the smell, but truly believe it makes the entire atmosphere of our apartment feel more light, fresh, and alive.
Our living room is to the left of our kitchen area and has large windows that invite light and warmth into our living every day. Each morning I look forward to pulling the shades back and letting the light pour in.
Our couch was a gift from my parents (similar one here) and the rug is from Target - of course! The table was picked up from a consignment store and was used in my previous apartment.
Both the wooden centerpiece on our living room table and the wooden crate holding our blankets are from a small store in Grapevine, Texas. They were too cute to pass up... Find similar ones here and here.
Behind the big plant sits our TV on a wooden antique that we actually brought down from Canton, NY when we drove down all of Joshua's things. (Yes, we drove from Canton, NY to Austin, TX - it was a three-day drive!)
Both Joshua and I are obsessed with books - and we quickly filled up our bookcases. The pillows are another treat we bought for ourselves from Magnolia - we purchased two Draper pillows in yellow and one Gracie pillow (which is actually on sale right now!!)
I am obsessed with the wall behind our couch - I had a creative spurt and thought "I'm totally going to make a gallery wall!" Joshua and I trying to figure out the correct way to hang it was pretty entertaining... it took some time to say the least.
Most of the wall hangings came from Target - see here and here - however I brought the colorful bowls back from my trip to Rwanda in 2014, and the bible verse is one of Josh's favorites that Jen had made for him as an Easter gift. The verse is Proverbs 24: 30-34 which reads: "I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense; thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins. I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw: A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man."
It matches our verse from Magnolia so well!
Lastly, our bedroom is another happy place because it's so bright and airy. Our matching lamps are from Target while our bedside tables and duvet cover are from West Elm. The bottom shelves of our bedside tables have large cream colored woven totes (see similar item here) that we use to throw not so pretty items in like magazines, journals, chargers, etc.
Our headboard is from Joss & Main and the mirror above our bed is from my previous apartment. (If you look closely, you can see a Maple Cotton Candy on Joshua's side of the bed... that's one we kept from his Shark Tank appearance that actually went on set with him).
I had so much fun putting together our apartment. I can't wait to finish Rhett's room and show you that next! :)
